The bakery is a literally fragrant performance where skilled, synchronized dancers and a gripping story make it a pure pleasure to watch.
The first thing that struck us was how pretty the stage looked and it felt like walking into a real bakery. Everything was in style and the costumes made the dancers look identical - just like puppets. The kitchen counter that stood in the center of the stage was also incredibly cool because it never ceased to surprise us with the many drawers with, among other things, lights, sounds and a giant spatula.
Bakeriet deals with an important theme, namely loneliness. Inger Hagerup's poem "Det bor en gammel baker" (There lives an old baker) is the source of inspiration for the performance and even though we knew this in advance and realized it was going to end sadly, we were surprised to be moved towards the end. Many clever and funny effects have been used, such as the dough rising and the shocks. It also appeals to the target audience (6 years and up) as well as adults and young people, at least as we perceived it.
Another thing that made Bakeriet great is how synchronized the dancers are. They move perfectly and precisely in relation to each other and the pre-recorded sounds. Very impressive and cool to watch. A clear highlight was the delicious gingerbread smell that filled the hall as the cakes were baked in the oven. It made the experience extra memorable!
We thought The Bakery was a great show, and were almost a little disappointed that it was over so quickly. Not all shows are entertaining all the time, but this one was. We walked out of the auditorium moved, excited and with an extreme craving for gingerbread. We hope that as many people as possible get to experience Bakeriet, because it was great!
