In our support scheme for professional performing arts for children and young people, you can apply for production funding for new performances, and for the revival/facilitation of existing performances for touring.

The assessment of the application will emphasize originality, innovation, budget and intended accessibility for the entire country. It is important that the applicant demonstrates that they have reflected on how their production will be able to engage, inspire and create a meaningful experience for children and young people as an audience.

The project funds will help to strengthen the development of professional performing arts for young audiences.

The application process

It's not that difficult, but it's important to do things in the right order. Before starting an application process, applicants are obliged to familiarize themselves with the funding scheme's guidelines for applying for and receiving funding.

About the application process:

  • The application must be artistically justified and should reflect on children and young people as a target group.
  • It is a prerequisite that the production can be sent out on tour, including within the Cultural Rucksack, and this must be reflected in the application.
  • The production should have professional performers.
  • Applications for new productions cannot have a premiere date before the application deadline expires.
  • Applications for adaptation and resumption must be accompanied by a letter(s) of intent to tour*. The tour/screening venues must mainly take place in Norway, but may be combined with screenings abroad. In addition, a Vimeo/Youtube link of the entire performance must be attached.
  • Funding is not available for amateur theater, pre-projects or workshops only.
  • We only accept applications submitted via the application portal.
The application deadline is absolute and the system closes automatically at 13.00 on the expiration date.
Applications not submitted by the deadline are automatically deleted in the system.
  • All information must be included in the online application, and no changes can be made to the application after the application deadline has passed.
  • It is not possible to send attachments or other information.
  • It is the applicant's responsibility to allow sufficient time to complete and submit the application.
Failure of your own computer equipment, problems with accessibility (network) and the like do not entitle you to resubmission.
  • Only applications with a correctly completed application form and correct attachments (if required) will be considered. The applicant will automatically receive a receipt by e-mail when the application is submitted. NB! For some, this may end up in spam/junk.

If you receive support:

  • Funds allocated to a production cannot be redistributed to other productions.
  • A payment request must be submitted in the application portal within 2 years of the application being approved.
  • Allocated funds are paid out in two installments. The first installment (80%) is paid when you have submitted a payment request. The second installment (20%) is paid when you have submitted a report and the report has been approved by the case officer.
  • Awarded amounts from NOK. 200,000 must be audited (this responsibility lies with the applicant).
  • The applicant is obliged to report and inform Scenekunstbruket as soon as possible if the performance/project is not carried out in accordance with the application.
  • When it comes to awarded funding for new production, you will not be able to reapply with the same project in this category.
  • The funds can be withdrawn, as well as claims for repayment of funds already disbursed, if the applicant does not comply with its obligations.
  • The applicant must make it known on all of the production's material that the performance is supported with funds from Scenekunstbruket. Logo can be downloaded here

Allocation

The allocation lists can be found here

Once you've been awarded production funding, it's important that you:

  • Submit a payment request in the application portal within two years of the application being approved. There, the applicant confirms that the amount will be used for the requested funds, and 80% of the application amount will be paid. If it takes longer than two years from the applicant being granted funding to the applicant requesting the first payment, the funding will lapse.
  • 1 year after the first payment (80%), the premiere must take place. If there are delays for various reasons, the applicant is obliged to inform Scenekunstbruket as soon as possible.
  • Send a report when the performance has premiered, as soon as possible, and no later than within 3 months. The report must be submitted via the application portal and the remaining 20% will be paid when it is approved by Scenekunstbruket.
  • The applicant is required to submit a report, and is obliged to inform Scenekunstbruket as soon as possible if the performance/project is not carried out in accordance with the application.
The submitted report is a prerequisite for the assessment of future applications.
Funds may be withdrawn, as well as demands for repayment of funds already disbursed, if the applicant does not comply with its obligations.
  • The applicant must make it known on all of the production's material that the performance is supported with funds from Scenekunstbruket. Logo can be downloaded here

Report

The final report should not be a long dissertation, but it is important that you write briefly about how the funds have been used. Remember to attach final accounts. Please note that amounts from NOK. 200,000 must be audited (this responsibility lies with the applicant).

Here are some tips along the way:

  • Was the artistic idea/vision you described in the application fulfilled? If there were major changes, why? How was the process from idea to performance? Any artistic choices that were made and why.
  • Briefly about scenography/lighting/sound: how did you think and work?
  • Finances: did you stay within budget, and if not, what did this mean for the performance?
  • Tour: what's the plan, and do you have any specific plans?

Councils and committees

Applications for production funding/new production are processed by a separate specialist committee.

The technical committee consists of 3 people. Efforts should be made to ensure that the committee has broad expertise and that different parts of the performing arts community are represented. Gender, background and age will also be factors in the selection process. The committee will consider applications for new projects and will also make final decisions in the cases.

The technical committee has the opportunity to obtain assessments from external expertise. The members of the expert committee serve for a period of 2 to 3 years.

The administration of Scenekunstbruket acts as secretary to the committee. Applicants may appeal against the case processing, but not against the professional artistic assessment on which the committee's decision is based.

The technical committee has the following composition in 2023:
Anne Ekenes, Eirik Willyson and Saila Hyttinen.

See the guidelines for Professional committees

The applications for adaptation/resumption are processed by Norsk scenekunstbruk in consultation with the Artistic Council.

The artistic council consists of people appointed on the basis of their expertise. Efforts will be made to ensure that members from different parts of the performing arts community are represented: the practitioner side of theater and dance, the dissemination side and academia. We will also strive for gender balance. The artistic council is appointed by the general manager in consultation with the board of Scenekunstbruket.

The artistic council has the opportunity to obtain assessments from external expertise. The members of the artistic council normally serve for 2 years.

The Artistic Council has the following composition in 2024:
Geir Hytten, Anders Karterudseter, Mariko Miyata-Jancey, Eli-Berit Lillesæter and Tor Christian Bleikli.
