The Kloden project was started by Scenekunstbruket in 2015 and will become a programming stage for children, young people and families. Kloden AS will start the construction of a pilot in the fall of 2019 and organize the festival Kloden i sentrum every year. Kloden currently has an independent board and artistic council.

The background to the project is the need for more production and screening rooms and a professional meeting place for everyone working with performing arts for young audiences.
After an extensive survey in close dialog with the City of Oslo and all parts of the performing arts field, the conclusion was that Kloden should be a place that:
  • program the best shows for children, youth and families
  • has good production rooms
  • is a professional hub for the performing arts field
  • offers artistic exploration to children and young people in collaboration with professional artists
  • contribute to more research on artistic practice.
Kloden will collaborate with both institutions and companies on touring and professional projects. The production spaces must meet general standard requirements and be suitable for dance, contemporary circus and other physical expressions. Artistic and professional quality must be a prerequisite for everything that happens at Kloden.
The name Kloden was chosen because of its level of ambition and international profile, but also because diversity and sustainability are premises for the project.
For Kloden, diversity is about equal opportunities and being open and relevant to as many people as possible. This applies to both representation and showing the breadth of performing arts available both nationally and internationally to young audiences. Kloden works purposefully to create more opportunities for people with little network, language challenges or other things that make it difficult to realize artistic projects.
Kloden pilot - and eventually Kloden theater - will be established at Økern. This is the center of Hovinbyen, Oslo's largest development area, which has the potential to connect Goruddalen with the inner city. For Kloden, sustainability is about contributing to healthy and good urban development, while at the same time we are involved in several projects that will make the performing arts field more environmentally sustainable.
The Kloden project is supported by the City of Oslo, Arts Council Norway, Sparebankstifelsen DNB and the Bergesen Foundation. In addition, the initiative and development funds from Scenekunstbruket have been crucial to the realization of the project.
