- Performing arts, pedagogy and participation

Landing - a production unit that initiates, produces and disseminates site- and target group-specific performing arts - organizes the seminar in collaboration with Norskscenekunstbruk:

Performing arts, pedagogy and participation

Artists, educators, researchers, communicators and others interested in performing arts for children and young people are invited to a two-day seminar May 30-31, 2013. The seminar thematizes the relationship between art and pedagogy, and participatory genres. Among other things, we will look at how the visual arts discourse can contribute to developing new perspectives in the performing arts.

Day 1) The relationship between performing arts and pedagogy

In Norway, performing arts for children and young people are mainly communicated within an educational context. What aesthetic possibilities does this represent? Can we - based on the visual arts' discourse on "the pedagogical turn" in contemporary art - open up a language in which pedagogies and aesthetics are thought positively together?

Day 2) Participatory genres in performing arts

Participatory genres (e.g. relational, social works) challenge all aspects of the production and dissemination of performing arts for children and young people, and represent a great opportunity for communication. What can we learn from the visual arts discourse about these genres?

Norsk scenekunstbruk is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2014, and is planning a major publication that will be a practice-oriented theory book. The relationship between performing arts and pedagogy, and an examination of the participatory genres, will be given considerable space in the publication. Norsk scenekunstbruk is therefore pleased to invite some of the contributors to the publication to participate in various contexts, such as this seminar.

Seminar format: Dialogue and exchange of experiences between the participants and contributors are at the center. The seminar will be a space for sharing and exchanging knowledge and experiences where everyone gets a chance to speak.
