Scenekunstbruket comes to the Theatre Festival in Fjaler with Young Voices and the EU project 3Place. In Young Voices, young people from Oslo and Dale collaborate to review the festival together with critic mentor Hedda Fredly.

In 3Place, we look at how performing arts can become a place young people choose, where they feel safe and what they miss in their local environment.

Young voices - Oslo + Dale edition

Young Voices is a project started by Scenekunstbruket in 2012. Unge Stemmer (Young Voices) is a website where young people between the ages of 13 and 20 can register and write about the art they experience, both at school through The Cultural Rucksack and in other arenas. Unge stemmer has editorial offices at several festivals in Norway, including the Theatre Festival in Fjaler and Scenekunstbruket's own festival: Showbox.

Scenekunstbruket is bringing two young people from Oslo to Dale, who together with three local young people will follow the entire festival; writing, filming and talking about what they experience. "This is a project we started last year, when we formed an editorial team with four local young people who were followed up by critic Runa Skolseg. The young people, Runa and we also participated in a podcast about performing arts for young audiences, which you can listen to here.

This year we're bringing along two young people from Oslo. Ali and Iulian are students at Kuben Upper Secondary School, and this spring they spent time with us at Scenekunstbruket, where they worked extensively on the EU project 3Place. Together with three young people from Fjaler, including Elliot and Henrik who also participated last year, they form this year's editorial team, which has critic Hedda Fredly as a mentor. 3place in Dale

Performing arts as the third place for the young audience

In Fjaler, 3Place is housed at Samvirke, where young people and festival-goers can build Dale through the festival; both physically and imaginatively. What is missing in Dale? What is the nicest place? Where do you like to hang out? Come and build with us!

3Place is a 3-year collaborative project led by Scenekunstbruket together with Kloden teater, Junges Ensemble Stuttgart (DE) and Divadlo Drak (CZ).

Third place is defined as a safe place where you can gather, be creative and feel that you belong. So how can we lower the threshold for interest in the performing arts, especially for groups that currently don't think it's for them?

  • How to create or transform a physical space where young audiences feel at home and included?
  • How do you create an art experience where young audiences feel at home and included?
  • How do we involve the young audience in a way they feel represented?
