In a few weeks' time, Hedda Days, the performing arts field's gigantic festival, will kick off in Oslo. Over the course of just over a week, audiences will have the opportunity to see performances from both local institutions and visiting regional theaters. And for the second year in a row, we have the honor of presenting last year's winner of the Hedda Award for best children's theater; Tobias og dagen det slalt by Rimfrost produksjoner and Hålogaland teater. In collaboration with Kloden, we are putting on two performances in Marmorsalen at Sentralen, Friday June 14. A daytime performance at 12:00, and an afternoon performance at 17:00. Tickets can be found here.

The jury's reasoning:
Traditionally, theater for children has been fast-paced and imaginative. Increasingly, it is also low-key and thoughtful. This year's award winner is both. It is colorful and flexible, and it emphasizes children's ability to process reality through play. Through play, the characters reflect and share personal dilemmas. They fantasize about what no longer exists and what no one knows what will happen. The adults are on the periphery, but still create a sense of security around the central dilemmas of the action. They can deal with the practical questions, while the children's solutions are conveyed through deeply personal perspectives on identity and change.

Tobias og dagen det slalt (Tobias and the day it went wrong ) is a beautiful play about being born in the wrong body for 1st - 4th grade written by playwright Jenny Svensson. The text is based on people with gender identity challenges and interviews with children aged 6 to 10 about gender identity and diversity. Through a mix of fantasy and reality, the performance develops knowledge and insights that help us understand that there are many ways to be human.
