Walk Cat, Walk! Who is really asking the 'cat' to walk? With this performance, Transiteatret takes a stand against modern body culture. What are the forces that set the 'standard', forcing down clothing sizes and turning the anorexic into the beautiful? But at the same time, the theater's critical question will become a question directed at art and the artist himself. In this way, "Walk Cat, Walk!" has in a way become a theater about the theater. Or, to put it another way, a theater that turns critical of itself. In a performance of fragments, like scenic variations on a theme, the connection between the catwalk and the stage, between the model and the film star, is sought. When the spotlight is turned on, it is therefore the shadow sides of art, glamor and the culture industry that are illuminated. Transiteatret is currently one of the most active independent actors on the theater scene in Bergen. Transiteatret works with classical theatrical language, but transforms it into a tool that shows certainty and knowledge of theatrical heritage and the broad spectrum of contemporary theatrical expressions. The actor as a stylized, rhythmic and strongly physical actionist in a theatre that leaves room for questions, engagement and recognition, shows references to both the Russian avant-garde within the theatre and Brecht's instrumentation of theatre as a political tool. Walk Cat, Walk! is the company's latest production. This performance looks at the connection between culture and body culture, between the sphere of art and the sphere of fashion. How focused and self-conscious is the art, or the artist's view of himself. Is the parallel between art arena and catwalk relevant? The company's ambitions clearly extend beyond being an alternative to the establishment. Behind the productions lies a commitment and a focus that expresses the will to create theater performances with a foot in, and with crass commentary on, the present. Politically, culturally and artistically, Transiteatret is potent theater that is no longer just an alternative.
