There is a Noise

"Do you remember any of it?" is the starting point for this performance. From the diary of a 16-year-old grandmother in 1945 to a child's escape from war in Sarajevo to Norway today, There is a Noise explores how a personal story can be seen in a larger collective storytelling and the possibilities of relating to it. We invite the audience to sit with us around a set table, while we serve freshly baked waffles and stories.

There is a Noise invites you into a memory, exploring the gray area between what you know to be true, what you've heard and what you can barely remember through that particular smell. It highlights the complexity of carrying a war story with you as a young person, and shares the confusion and restlessness of leaving home at a young age.

Freya Sif Hestnes and Marina Popović started their artistic collaboration at the Academy of Performing Arts, where they both graduated in 2016, as stage designer and actor respectively. Through a shared interest in memory, identity and the individual's place in the collective, they explore documentary material as a starting point for composition and sensory spaces. Sound designer and musician Marianna Sangita Røe was invited to create a tactile soundscape as a physical and spatial manifestation. The collaboration between the three will continue in future projects.
