Meet 5 strong individuals, each with their own unique story - all based in Norway but with roots from other cultures. What happens when they meet?
How do their attitudes and choices affect each other? How do you retain your own identity while remaining open to new impulses - in a society that sees "the outside" as a sign of belonging?
In today's multicultural society, there are many challenges to understanding each other's religions and cultures. This performance will highlight the exciting aspects of integration, mergers and influences, while showing a society where there is room to be different and unique, and proud of one's own background and belonging.
Hip hop is the unifying language in this performance, paving the way for integration and tolerance. Hip hop culture is one of the few cultures that can be called color-blind and religion-free. It lives by the principle of an inclusive and open society - where background and affiliation should not be an applicable factor for acceptance.
Workshops
If desired, the performers can hold a 90-minute dance workshop prior to the performance. The focus will then be on learning about the educator's backgrounds and experiences in relation to the theme: integration in society and about hip hop culture. This is done both through an oral presentation, and then a dialog with the students. The students then learn some of the basic techniques from hip-hop dance/possibly breaking, and the whole thing is put together for a short performance in smaller groups.
