Forskningsprosjekt V
KDP
A satire on the quasi-intellectual fashion landscape that is often given great influence over what can be made and what should be presented as "art" today.
At its core, it is a performance that asks the question: "What is art?" On stage, we meet two performing artists who are completely au fait with the latest zeitgeist when they present their research projects to an uninformed audience. With examples from their previous research projects, they explain that today it is not enough to make art at the intersection of visual art and theater, what is called crossover.
"And is Visual Art only for those who can see?" they ask, "Don't you get images when you listen to music?" What's more, everyone is doing crossover, so it can't be art! No, today you have to be cutting edge! Or cutting eggs! Without our artists being quite sure which egg to cut. Or which side of the egg to be on once it's been cut.
But what they are sure of is that when you experience this kind of "cutting egg" performing arts, all the audience's inhibitions are shattered like the shell of an egg. And all the experiences are mixed together into one: a dose of eggs - like you've never experienced in the theater before! Waffles, yes! But never eggnog!
Should you be "site specific" or should you say what you need to say through a "performance lecture"? Is it wrong for performing arts to be entertaining? And do we criticize entertainment because it doesn't convey anything to the audience, while at the same time promoting "art" that doesn't want to convey anything to the audience?
"But is it art?" is the final line of the performance, but the starting line for a discussion inside and outside the school about what art really should be.
