Raw, strong and vulnerable dance theater, based on inmates' experiences.

BRUDD is a dance theater about being an inmate and excluded from a life of freedom. A story from prison about vulnerability and power, and about how everyone can grow when we gain and give trust. The performance is a reflection of the prison reality, bodily and physical reflections of inmates' experiences. BRUDD interprets existential feelings in the face of isolation and anxiety, shame and rejection, insomnia and discouragement.
It expresses loss and grief, but also protest and anger.

All the texts performed in the performance are written by inmates at Ullersmo and Trondheim prisons. The red costumes are on loan from Ullersmo prison.

BRUDD is part of the art project PUST MEG FRAM! in which inmates at Ullersmo and Trondheim prisons have created photo art and poetic texts together with visual artist Lise Linnert and author and priest Elisabeth Thorsen.

Supported by: Olavsfestdagene, E.C. Dahls stiftelse, Kulturådet, Fond for lyd og bilde, Fond for utøvende kunstnere and DansiT.

BRUDD premiered in Trefoldighetenskirken in Oslo in the fall of 2021. Performances were held in Ullersmo and Trondheim prisons, in Nidaros Cathedral during St. Olav's Day 2023, at Scenehuset in Oslo and at Tynset kulturhus during TronTalks 2023.

Audience placement:
The audience is placed with four entrances and exits with the central stage in the middle and the audience on all sides. The placement of the audience is the frame in the open space, where they see both the dancers and each other. The outer edge of the audience area is also a playing area, as we used the archways in Trinity Church. See attached drawing. The audience is surrounded and enveloped by the performance with events happening around, in front of and behind them. The form has been chosen to reinforce the experience of being a part, and not an observer.

We use the lighting available at each venue. A keyboard with amplifier must be brought along. Possibly if the venue has a piano. The sound is real acoustic sound with some text performance, with an extract of a scene, where gentle music is used.

For keyboard only.
