Workshops before/after performing arts performances in The Cultural Rucksack

How can pupils get even more out of the performances in The Cultural Rucksack (DKS)? Workshops create engagement, allow students and teachers to explore themes and form and make it easier for them to use the performances in their teaching. The seminar will present examples of such workshops developed for DKS by Den Nationale Scene, The Norwegian Theatre and Scenekunstgrupper (tba). Drama- og teaterpedagogene and Dans i skolen på Seilet - Huset for kunst og kultur i skolen, launches a model for a pilot project. Scenekunstbruket is a partner.

About the pilot project Meet the performance!
Workshops called Meet the performance! are held before/after performing arts performances that are selected to be part of the pilot in the 2018/2019 school year.

  • The counties participating in the pilot choose one dance performance and one theater performance.
  • The workshops are developed for each performance.
  • The workshop is not held on the same day, from one week - one day before/after the performance.
  • The number of tour days run with a workshop is chosen by DKS in the county.
  • Workshop duration: 90 min, up to three workshops per day (max. five hours in total, cf. DKS framework conditions).
  • Drama and dance teachers are hired locally. Fees follow the DKS rate, which is NOK 3,899 per day in 2017/2018. DKS in the counties covers fees and workshop development.

Seilet - Huset for kunst og kultur i skolen by Drama- og teaterpedagogene andDans i skolen contributes with:

  • Announcement of engagement and quality assurance of the selection of drama educators and dance educators who develop and conduct workshops. They are hired locally in the county where the performance will tour. The organizations have county teams and networks that cover large parts of Norway.
  • Professional gatherings for drama and dance educators holding workshops as part of the pilot Meet the performance! Exchange of experience and professional development. Travel costs cannot be covered, but based on need, gatherings in several cities can be considered.
  • Initiate surveys of what teachers and students get out of the workshops and performances.
