Norsk scenekunstbruk must be said to be one of the budget winners in the State Budget 2009, with an increase of NOK 4.6 million. Although the increase includes funds for work with the Cultural Rucksack that previously came from the gambling funds, significant new funds have also been allocated to Scenekunstbruket.
Norsk Scenekunstbruk provides dance and theater to large parts of the country, and is the national actor for performing arts in the Cultural Rucksack. We are therefore very pleased that the government has taken the step of strengthening Norsk scenekunstbruk by giving us the opportunity to include a new county in the scheme (Finnmark) and at the same time manage the production funds for performing arts in the Cultural Rucksack, which are currently handled by the Arts Council Norway.
In total, this will strengthen the dissemination competence and ensure a breadth of artistic and professional quality when it comes to performing arts productions, as well as further develop our national dissemination network so that the offers for children and young people become even more accessible throughout the country.

Norsk scenekunstbruk presented almost 2,200 performances in 68 productions through The Cultural Rucksack for Schools (DKS) in 2007. Since DKS was introduced, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of performances distributed, and we hope for further increases in funding to both maintain and further develop the current offerings.Scenekunstbruket has a distribution network of county councils and their local organizers. The network currently encompasses 16 counties, soon to be 17 when Finnmark is hopefully included from 2009 (Oslo and Nord-Trøndelag are not included).
