On Thursday 30 November 2023, the winners of this year's Gulljerven 2023 were announced at Kloden teater during this year's Showbox performing arts festival for a young audience. Gulljerven is an award that will honor all those who stand up for the performing arts for a young audience, and contribute to getting it out to children and young people in every corner of Norway. Established in 2019, and awarded by Norsk Scenekunstbruk.

Jury of the year:

Bernt Bjørn, actor, director
Kristin Sundelin, responsible for performing arts DKS Troms og Finnmark
Piero Issa, dancer, choreographer
Katja Lindeberg, actor, director

Newcomer of the year:

Remi Johansen Hovda

In an interview, this year's winner chose the superpower of being able to fly in order to see more of the world and gain a new perspective. Through her daily work, the award winner contributes to broadening other people's perspectives and is an important role model for children, adolescents and young adults.

As his alter ego, the award winner always meets the young audience with respect and joy, even if it certainly costs to stand alone on stage and in the discussion.

With queer retellings of fairy tales, he also develops the potential of art. He is a drag performer, drama and theater educator, university lecturer and a queen.

Nominees:

Fanny Bjørn
Kaleb Haile
William Arnø
Ida Utvik
Remin Johansen Hovda

Oldcomer of the year:

Nadir Guendouz

This year's award winner has been a resource in the field of performing arts for many years, and has spread learning, wisdom and love through her work! The award winner has developed her very own method for seeing and developing people to become artists, and over the years has generously shared her knowledge.

His family's plan was for him to become an engineer, but the award winner himself dreamed of something completely different: He wanted to dance and act. We are very happy that he followed his own dream.

The artistic development that has taken place in the Norwegian performing arts field is largely thanks to this year's award winner, and the legacy will be carried on.

Cable puller of the year

Shiva Sherveh

Like so many of his fellow nominees, this year's award winner is skilled and hardworking. This year's cable puller possesses a quality that is needed when the going gets tough, as it often does in this industry: The award winner's smile and calmness makes the most stressed actor think - everything will work out! And it does.

The award winner's broad artistic expertise was also decisive for the jury: do you need a liquidator? A stage design assistant? Lighting designer? A technician? The award winner is all that, and much more, in one and the same person. With Cable Puller of the Year, you get a rock-solid woman at the helm.

This year's (d)jerveste

Tani Dibasey

Before we present the award, we would like to go into the definition of the word itself, djerv. The word djerv comes from Norse, djaefr, and refers to a person's ability to show courage. Courage is the ability of a person or group to be brave, fearless and dare to challenge themselves to something that usually triggers fear, uncertainty and risk. The term is associated with self-confidence and an ability to show boldness.

This year's winner could just as easily have had a picture of herself in the dictionary next to the word bold. This year's winner is honest and unafraid of the consequences one might feel as a performing artist. The winner of the award dares to say out loud what perhaps many others in similar situations feel, but do not dare to say. The winner represents herself, but also many others, and shows a courage that commands respect.

With a necessary protest, the award winner has, both through her artistic work and statements over the past year, addressed the Norwegian performing arts field, where some are outside and some inside. A clear voice that paves the way for those who come after him.

Manufacturer of the year

Katrine Kirsebom

The Producer of the Year has worked in the industry for many years. It's a person who always manages to lift their gaze, see the big picture, but at the same time be aware of the individual's needs. The winner is often on the artists' side, as both defender and ambassador.

This year's producer is brutally honest, but always friendly. Clear, but always responsive to others' perspectives. For several years, the producer has worked actively to make different bodies and stories visible to young audiences. She is responsible for programming performing arts for tens of thousands of children and young people as a producer for performing arts in DKS Viken.

Special artistic efforts

Elle Sofe Sara

The winner of the Special Artistic Achievement award is a multi-artist, tradition bearer and bridge builder in the performing arts. For over ten years, the winner has highlighted lifestyles and traditions in a way that appeals to young audiences, but never compromises on the artistic.

The winner explores communities and collective memories, where people, art and nature merge. The expression is both timeless, innovative and confrontational.

Sami way of life and traditions are still challenged by mainstream society's desire for progress, and the winner stages what is at stake in a way that touches far beyond the borders of Sápmi. The winner has also built up an artist collective in the north.
