Tabanka 2

Tabanka ensemble performs an energetic dance performance inspired by reggae and ethnic dance and rhythms.

The performance begins with a beautiful African-influenced stage picture where a single dancer creates a magical atmosphere. This production is characterized by an infectious mood and extremely powerful and skilled dancers. Artistic director Thomas T Prestø gave a fine introduction in which he emphasized the inspiration from his ancestors all the way back to the slave era. The performance was a tribute to this ensemble's common roots. He described his people as strong survivors who, despite inhuman conditions, allowed both song and dance a place in their lives.

This was a rich and powerful performance, with a strong and coordinated ensemble. In the discussion after the performance, the group was divided, with some feeling that the choreography was a bit monotonous and thus the performance felt a bit too long. The other half were enthralled from start to finish.

To do this performance full justice, there should be a good lighting rig, as this was an important part of the experience. To get the full benefit, we recommend time for preparation, which the group offers, and time for a good chat afterwards.

The performance creates a good atmosphere, is beautiful and leaves the audience both excited and enlightened.
