Grass

The kindergarten children sit like lighted candles as they watch three performers perform on a stage filled with grass. The performers have backgrounds in puppetry, circus and dance, which gives the show a much broader spectrum and keeps the performance interesting throughout.

Keeping the attention of children aged 4-5 is difficult, but the athletes in Gräs manage this incredibly well! "Is it finished soon?" said a little boy when it was just starting. Later, the same boy said "This is so funny!". I think the kids loved this performance, even I thought it was nice to watch.

There wasn't a specific storyline running through the entire performance, but this is perhaps just as well. The performance was just as fun and exciting to watch, even without much talking or action. It was almost as if there were three friends just playing around in a garden.

The stage is covered with a grass mat, and a truck made of grass stands halfway inside the stage. Behind it is a grass tunnel with an incredibly large puppet leg sticking out of one opening. They use these aesthetic tools well and the props play a trick on perspective. This makes the performance interesting and encourages the audience to use their imagination.

Many thanks to Claire Parsons Co. and Marionetteatern for a great and interesting performance, which made us understand that a performance does not have to have a specific meaning all the time.
