FREE ART - a celebration of artistic freedom of expression March 2-8, 2020

FRI KUNST is a network of artists, art and cultural institutions and organizations.

We stand together to help ensure that artists and art institutions - in all countries - are able to create and practice their art freely, without threats and persecution. This is a fundamental right and a prerequisite for a free and democratic society.

Artistic freedom is increasingly exposed and threatened in the world. We cannot accept that artists and art institutions are put under pressure by politicians who disagree with the message, means or form of art. Political authorities should not override independent, art-related decisions.

Our goal is

  • to act actively and in solidarity when artists are subjected to censorship, persecution and harassment,
  • to contribute to increased attention and awareness in society about safeguarding artistic freedom of expression,
  • to preserve the autonomy of the arts - through the defense of the "arm's length" principle in arts and culture management.

Between March 2-8, you can participate in a number of events that focus on free art. see the overview of all here.
