Vilja
Blendwerk
It's New Year's Eve and time for a new beginning. But tonight everything goes wrong for Vilja."Vilja" is a poetic, fragmented and distinctive musical theater concert that seeks to say something about being poor in today's rich Norway.Throughout Christmas it has been raining and Vilja's father is worried about the bears in Russia who can't sleep because it's too hot.Vilja is sixteen and lives with her father after her mother died when she was young. Her father is long-term unemployed and is forced to go on welfare to ask for money. This affects Vilja in many ways. Like when everyone in the class goes to the Czech Republic on a class trip and Vilja has to stay at home because her father can't afford the excess. And when Vilja needs a new dress for the New Year's party, 200 kroner is all her father can spare."What kind of dress do you really get for 200?" Vilja asks and continues: "Why can't I own something nice for once?"And then Vilja does something wrong..."Vilja" is a fragmentary and puzzling theater concert, where music and video film function both as a bridge between scenes and as an independent narrative element.Blendwerk does not want to provide the answers, but is more concerned with asking questions to awaken the audience's and young people's own involvement.
