Versailles

Janne is very good. She is good at gymnastics, she is on the student council and she always does her homework. She balances on a tightrope between what she thinks is expected of her and the fear of making mistakes. So when the adults' demands to enjoy their summer vacation collide with the deadline for a perfect lifestyle in Versailles, she panics. Everything locks up.

She gets unexpected help from the boy next door, Torstein, who says: “You just write. One word. Then one more word. No corrections, no erasures, no improvements. No stopping until the whole style is finished.” Suddenly, Janne has written herself into history, into Versailles. She lets her imagination run wild and the world around her transforms into a colorful and dangerous tale about the French castle where she is trapped. Can she find her way out?

The performance is a defense of, and a tribute to, the imagination.

VERSAILLES is a piece specially written for Teater Joker by Jesper Halle, with new music composed by Geirmund Simonsen and Raymond Enoksen staged in Teater Joker's characteristic, physical idiom.

The performance was first produced as a co-production with Bærum Kulturhus in 2019.
