Small Stick Big Bird (2004)
Henriette Pedersen / Nartmanstiftelsen
With an internal pecking order, in rococo-inspired costumes and hair ornaments instead of feather ornaments, four women meet in a seemingly idyllic pastoral landscape. In the performance Small Stick Big Bird, four women meet in a seemingly idyllic pastoral landscape. With an internal pecking order, in rococo-inspired costumes and hair ornaments instead of feather ornaments, the dancers are confusingly similar to birds as they move around each other on stage. Henriette Pedersen's choreographic universe is known for being subtle, absurd and very funny, and we're not dealing with innocent little lark birds. The characters' inner dreams, their peculiarities and internal power relations are at the center of the action. A recurring element is the jazz singer who enters the stage to sing dreamy cover songs to a scratchy radio. What kind of relationship does she really have with the others? Is it she who ultimately decides over them? What happens if she decides to realize her dream? Small Stick Big Bird is high-quality contemporary dance that borders on theater with slapstick elements and has a strong connection to contemporary music through Lars Petter Hagen's soundscape/composition. The performance by singer Carin Granath sets a distinctive mood in the performance. The performance was produced as an adult performance, but is also suitable for students in secondary school and high school.
