Sampo Lappelill
Klomadu teater
Sampo, a Sami boy, embarks on a perilous journey to the mountain Rastegaissa to meet the ruler of darkness, the mountain king Hiisi. Rastegaissa is where all the animals gather every year to celebrate the great sun festival, but up there the mountain king threatens them with eternal darkness and winter. Sampo takes up the fight against Hiisi, but has to escape. During his escape, he is helped by the good goddesses Sarakka, Joksakka and Oksakka, and eventually returns home to his people with the gift of the sun festival.
"Sampo Lappelill" is based on a Sami fairy tale that is told through the use of puppets, masks, objects and narration. It has become an exciting and beautiful performance.
Sampo Lappelill was produced in 1992 and has been performed more than 400 times in kindergartens and schools in many parts of the country. The production was selected to compete for best children's theatre under the auspices of ASSITEJ. After a number of requests, Klomadu Teater chose to stage the production again in 1996, and has had it in its repertoire ever since.
