The performance Peer Gynt no. 371 focuses on the main character "Peer" in an abstract dance version. The performance is built around the young, the middle-aged and the aging Peer. It seeks to convey the essence of the work's main character rather than providing a clear retelling of the drama. On an external level, "Peer Gynt" is about personal dreams and ambitions in the face of "reality". Peer grows up in a rural community where he is an outsider. He isn't accepted and doesn't find his place, so his voice isn't taken seriously either. At its core, Peer Gynt is about the spiritual dimensions of life, linked to finding oneself and one's place in a larger context, a search for meaning and fulfillment of who one is. We meet Peer in a triple appearance through the dancers Sittibancha Bampen, Nils Jakob Johannesen and Biniam Yhidego, with origins from Asia, Europe and Africa. Choreographer Øyvind Jørgensen is a prominent figure in Norwegian contemporary dance and his approach to dance is expressive and dynamic. The revival and adaptation of Peer Gynt no. 371 for tour is produced by Ø. J. Prod. and The Norwegian Touring Theatre, and supported by Norsk scenekunstbruk/The Cultural Rucksack, The Audio Visual Fund and The Fund for Performing Artists.
