Parallelle Virkeligheter
Playground Production
An interactive performance about racism in our society. The performance is based on real-life stories, interviews and conversations with young adults who live with racism. Text is also taken directly from social media.
In the performance, we meet the students Yonas and Julie, and their teacher. The action takes place in a school corridor. Yonas and Julie like each other a lot, but a video posted online triggers an argument that goes completely off the rails. The teacher who intervenes in the argument acts with bias, exacerbating the situation.
The audience can influence the action directly when the actors ask: How could I have acted differently in the situation I was in? In this way, the performance has different endings each time it is performed.
"Parallel Realities" highlights what it's like to be a victim of racism, while also providing tools that can help tackle everyday racism and create hope for the future.
"Parallel realities" is a co-production between Playground Production and Brageteatret. The performance and script are developed with Tani Dibasey, Stine Indergård, Terje Ranes and Kevin Mbugua.
"Parallel Realities" has been developed with assistance and support from DKS Viken, Dramatikkens Hus, Demos Fredrikstad Municipality, Scenekunstbruket, Fritt Ord and Kulturlauget Fredrikstad.
