Nok en same
Ferske scener
A Sami who doesn't know how Sami he is, a joiner and a Norwegian with a cello. All brought together to talk about something you can't just talk about to strangers.
Håkon and Torgeir Vassvik come from Gamvik, a fishing village on the coast of Finnmark. This is a place where the suppression of Sami culture has been enormous ever since the 1800s. But now it's a place where Sami identity is being rebuilt. This is our story of how a true mixed culture failed to be Norwegianized.
Reindeer herding, kofte, Sami language, joik and duodji are the best-known signs of Sami culture. These are virtually non-existent in our coastal Sámi culture today. This performance is about our yardstick for the Sami. What are our signs of Sámi identity and perhaps more importantly, what signs do we want?
