Meet Sara Hedde – a young woman who has never known belonging. The audience meets her in a prison visiting room, where she gradually unravels her own story. It is a story of a person who has fallen outside, and who, bit by bit, is pushed further and further away from the community.

In parallel, her story is mirrored in the story of Håvard Hedde – known from the fairy tale about the poor boy who faces life with vigor, but who ultimately has to give in:
"She betrayed me just as well." Here, Håvard Hedde is highlighted as more than a historical figure; he becomes an image of someone who falls outside, but refuses to become invisible. The performance is therefore not primarily about history or folk song tradition, but about being outside – then and now.

The question is not: Who was Håvard Hedde?
But: Who is Håvard Hedde today?

Have society's norms become so narrow that more people risk falling outside – and losing themselves along the way? And is there a way back? Can we take ownership of our own history, and transform stigma into identity – and perhaps into strength? How good a society is is not measured by how it treats those who fit in, but by how it meets those who fall outside.

The project has been awarded support from Tvedestrand Municipality, the Directorate of Culture and DKS-Agder in the development phase. The Fund for Performing Artists, Sparebanken Sør, and the Fund for Sound and Image have supported the trial period for completion towards the premiere.
Fritt ord has supported the performance with work on a prison tour.
