- a performance about idealism, closeness and betrayal.Vestre frontavsnitt, May 12 at 23:00. Too hot to sleep. Tomorrow an attack has been predicted, everyone is talking about it, and I'm scared. Too hot to sleep, too scared to sleep. What about everyone else here, are they scared too? Most of them are no more than 19-20 years old, taken out of school and sent to the front, no questions asked. Tonight they are dancing. One of them brought a cassette player, they are dancing the night before the attack. Dance tonight, die tomorrow? And tonight? Earlier today, three of them asked me to marry them. I'd photographed them for a long time, been with them all day, and when we had tea, they asked me to marry them. "Marie, will you marry us and take us out of here? Are they that desperate? The action of the play takes place in our time. A female European reporter is covering a civil war in a country in the tropics and travels to the front with the rebel army. She has covered many civil wars in the past, but this time it will be different: She bonds with the female commander of the unit she is traveling with. Despite their different backgrounds and cultures, the two women cautiously approach each other. The rebel army wins the war and sets about building peace. After a short time, the European reporter senses trouble: The rebel army suddenly shows itself from another side: There are signs that it executes indiscriminately, organizes massacres and bribes tribal chiefs who stand in its way. Yet the European reporter waits to report it. Is it her relationship with the commander that is holding her back? Is it the rebel army's fall from an idealistic movement to an authoritarian military regime that is too much for her? The play alternates between the war and a UN court where the European reporter has been summoned as a witness. The court is deciding on the prosecution's demand to investigate the female commander for war crimes. The European reporter is cross-examined by a defense lawyer who tries to cast doubt on her credibility.
