HILDE AND ERHART by Birte SvatunHilde is the lonely, hurt and eccentric girl in Henrik Ibsen's The Lady from the Sea (1888) and Master Builder Solness (1892). Erhart is the son who tries to break away from his parents to live his own life in John Gabriel Borkman (1896).While Hilde longs for love, Erhart longs for freedom. In Hilde and Erhart the two young people meet, and the story is told in their voices.Ibsen's drama is staggeringly timeless, and the challenges Hilde and Erhart face are the same as those faced by today's young people;Detachment from the family: Their own, versus their parents' wants and needs.Duties and bonds. Relationships with stepfather/stepmother. The play is set in the present with a gym as the meeting place for Hilde and Erhardt. While Hilde grows up with a distant father, Dr. Wangels, and a stepmother, Ellida, who always wants to be somewhere else, Erhart is in a situation where his parents and an aunt cling to him mercilessly. As an only child, he must satisfy their needs and longings for power, love and revenge. We hope and believe that this production can create interest among young people to read and see Ibsen's plays performed. Ibsen, one of the greatest playwrights of all time, this meeting in a modern space is suitable for 8 -10th graders. The feedback from the young people is brilliant, and many parents and teachers say that the play is just as much for them.
