Gato. Stories about (not) coming home
Historias
For us in Norway, freedom of expression and practicing an art form you are passionate about is a matter of course, but not for Gato. Nevertheless, as he says, he chooses dance 100 times out of 100.
Through documentary film, dance and conversations, we get to know Gato and his conditions as a dancer in Guatemala. The contrast between winning the Hedda Award and the Critics' Prize in Norway, and the subsequent death threats in his home country could not have been greater. The M13 - often referred to as one of the world's most dangerous gangs - threatens Gato's life because he is a dancer. As a skilled dancer, he has paved his way out of the favela through hip-hop culture, and he is considered a threat that can recruit "future soldiers" - i.e. children - out of the gang environment through dancing.
The documentary film "Bboy For Life" will be sent in advance and does not need to be seen on the same day as the performance. The film takes the audience on a journey that involves everything from kidnappings, loss of close friends, threats, murder, escape, exile, discoveries about their own origins, friendship, safety, politics, corruption, solidarity and love between friends.
