Fett
Turnékompaniet
The starting point for the whole project was diet books as a genre. Diet books have gradually developed into a very lucrative niche in the book market (almost on a par with their cookbook counterparts!), but what exactly are they? Most books are based on academic or pseudo-academic arguments. The academic content of the books can be - and is - discussed, but aren't we really talking about fiction? Don't the books have the same value as fiction? They are almost structured like a novel. They often follow a person from deep misery, through temptations and tribulations to a happy climax: In the end, there stands the hero of the story: you, full and light on your feet... The real hero, however, is the author. The thin successful one who gives the solution to the fat unsuccessful one. Rarely is the tension between sender and receiver greater than in these books.Actors Peter, Anders and Jonas Kippersund were introduced to their first diet books in the late 1970s. Since then, they have read most of them and now weigh over 400 kilos between them. This is perhaps empirical evidence that the books are counterproductive. In any case, the men have solid experiences that have sharpened their approach to analysis. It's not just the Kippersund brothers who have put on weight. The average weight in Norway has increased by 9 kilos since 1945. Much of the reason for this is attributed to the sedentary life we lead in post-industrial society. People quickly get into a vicious spiral: First you sit still, then you get fat, then it becomes embarrassing to move because you're fat, then you sit still and get fatter. The solution quickly becomes the Flyvertin diet instead of wallowing on the pedestal of a spinning bike at the gym. However, we didn't want to turn this into a health education campaign. Our artistic goal was to explore the universe of diet books on stage, and during the process we discovered that we constantly end up discussing who is to blame for the misery: The individual or society? How should the epidemic be combated? And is it really a misery and an epidemic that needs to be fought; maybe it's just evolution taking its course? We think this will make for an interesting and fun show. If it also gives the audience some thoughts about the development of society - and their own self-image - that will be a welcome bonus...
