A cardboard box of stories
Martine Hattestad Kveli in collaboration with Det Andre Teatret
We all have our stories. Some choose to share them only with those closest to them, while others need to talk about them in public. As a newborn, Martine was abandoned in a cardboard box at a train station in China. The country's one-child policy meant that families could only have one child, preferably a boy. But as luck would have it, she was adopted to Norway when she was 5 months old.
Through 45 minutes of song, dance and texts that are both reflective and humorous, Martine talks about her thoughts and experiences about having Norwegian citizenship but a non-Norwegian ethnic appearance and being adopted. What does it mean to be Norwegian today? What was the one-child policy all about, and what consequences did it have?
The performance is the winner of "Most touching moment" and "Best performance" at both Oslo Fringe Festival 2021 and Trondheim Fringe Festival 2021.
