The project is based on the sociological theories of "third places". This is defined both as physical places outside the home and school, but also various social and imaginary spaces. It is often a safe place where individuals gather for a common purpose, a place where participants can develop a sense of belonging. This forms the framework for the 3Place project, which will investigate methods for developing theater houses, performing arts and art experiences to become a place where young people choose to be - including young people who do not currently see the performing arts as a place for them.

The project has three approaches to the theme:

  • Physical: How can we create or transform a physical space where young audiences feel at home and included?
  • Artistic: How can we create an art experience where the young audience is at home and included?
  • Involvement: How do we engage young audiences in a way they are represented?
