New postal location, but no fresh funds
Scenekunstbruket moved together with other organizations and competence centers, but receives no increased funding for production and organizer support or dissemination.
Scenekunstbruket moved together with other organizations and competence centers
In the State Budget for 2025, Scenekunstbruket has been placed on Chapter 320 item 74 Grants to organizations, competence centers etc .
In 2020 (for the 2021 budget year), we were placed on Chapter 325 General cultural purposes Item 78 Children and youth initiatives. This placement was ill-suited, as Scenekunstbruket did not have any comparable tasks with the other recipients of this item. Our organization is a performing arts institution, and is far outside the definition of "children and youth initiatives".

- Since 2020, we have been working to be placed together with other professional performing arts actors. Although our original wish was to be moved to chapter 323 Music and performing arts Item 70, we are pleased that we are now placed in a chapter and item where we find other organizations and competence centers that work with professional art, says CEO, Tine Valavuo Tyldum.
No extra funding for the dissemination of performing arts throughout the country
For several years, together with Norske kulturhus, we have applied for funding to use our distributed dissemination model and organizer support for the country's cultural centers. In 2024, we decided to use our own funds to carry out a pilot. This is a system that we know works, the cultural centers are ready, and children, young people and families get good performing arts wherever they live.
- We hoped to be able to continue the project in future years to show how easy it is to use our communication system in cultural centres, and how little administration and finance is required to get a fully-fledged communication system up and running," says the general manager.
Scenekunstbruket has not received increased funding for organizer support for the counties in DKS. These funds have remained unchanged since 2013, and in 2023 they covered only 17.3% of the counties' expenses, even though the scheme should be able to cover up to 50%. When the reimbursement does not keep pace with rising costs in the field, it affects the diversity of performing arts on the road in DKS.
No increase in production funding for new performing arts
Scenekunstbruket's production funds for new productions and revivals/facilitation are in great demand in the performing arts field, but these schemes have not received any increase in this budget either. In 2023, the total amount of applications from the performing arts field was over NOK 18 million, while we only had NOK 3.6 million at our disposal.
- We see that limited access to production funds prevents companies from realizing projects, making it difficult to take the artistic or financial risk of creating performances," says Tine Valavuo Tyldum. "If the national cultural policy goal is to give children and young people access to professional culture regardless of where they live, we must also strengthen the artistic content offered to young audiences.
