Before we present the award, we would like to go into the definition of the word itself, djerv. The word djerv comes from Norse, djaefr, and refers to a person's ability to show courage. Courage is the ability of a person or group to be brave, fearless and dare to challenge themselves to something that usually triggers fear, uncertainty and risk. The term is linked to self-confidence and an ability to show boldness.

This year's winner might as well have had a picture of herself in the dictionary next to the word bold. This year's winner speaks out honestly, without fear of the consequences one might feel as a performing artist. The winner of the award dares to say out loud what perhaps many others in similar situations feel, but do not dare to say. The person represents themselves, but also many others, and shows a courage that commands respect.

With a necessary protest, the award winner has, both through his artistic work and statements over the past year, addressed the Norwegian performing arts field, where some are outside and some inside. A clear voice that paves the way for those who come behind him.
