Reality is round - we meet beyond language
With movement, sound and meter-long pillow snakes, young children can explore their unique ability for affectionate play and interest in their surroundings.
The Swedish company Johanssons pelargoner och dans comes to Showbox with the performance Verkligheten är rund, Thursday 27 November at Sentralen , at 10:00 and 13:00. The dance performance is based on young children's unique ability for affectionate play and interest in their surroundings. With movement, sound and meter-long pillow snakes, contact and how we can meet beyond language are explored.
This is a co-creative dance performance for children from 6 months to 2 years and their adults. Two dancers and a musician open the doors to a playful and sensual space that arouses curiosity and facilitates encounters between everyone who participates in the work. The audience is invited in, and the actors respond to what arises – they follow, support and build on. With a listening presence, the performance is shaped in the moment, and therefore no experience is the same as the other.
The Birgit Cullberg scholarship 2025
The company, which consists of dancers and choreographers Karin Wiklund and Annica Styrke, received the Birgit Cullberg Scholarship 2025 in the fall of 2025.
The jury states in its reasoning:
Since its inception in 2009, the group has developed works that invite the audience to actively participate, and that through play and bodily exploration raise questions about language, power and identity. By challenging norms and exploring multilingualism as an artistic tool, JPOD has created performing arts that are inclusive, thought-provoking and accessible to a wide audience – both nationally and internationally.
