Musical biology fantasy
Meet shy Karoline and her wild friend Hedvig. One day, while playing in the forest, Karoline discovers that she can hear and talk to the mushrooms in the Weave.
The nature we live in has endless secrets. Beneath the ground there is a vast invisible network that the forest uses to communicate. Through invisible threads of fungi, nutrients and information are exchanged in complex collaborations. This subterranean network is the inspiration for Veven, a musical fantasy performance by Pleiade that explores this magical world.
The story follows the quiet and shy Karoline and her wild friend Hedvig. One day, while playing in the forest, Karoline discovers that she can hear and talk to the mushrooms in the weave. Hedvig is unable to do so, much to her frustration. This marks the start of an exciting and dangerous journey into the Weave.
Veven is a biological fantasy where the magic of the universe is based on real biological phenomena. With live music, interactive scenography and a rich soundscape, the performance brings the hidden secrets of the forest to life. Nature is more than a struggle for existence - it is also filled with cooperation and community.
Pleiade is a newly started theater company. They are a group of young artists who work interdisciplinary in theater and music, to create experimental expressions in music theater. The Weave is Pleiade's first performance.
The artistic team consists of the actors Maja Sørbø and Ragnhild Risnes, who have also developed the idea and the script, together with Mona Krogstad (saxophone and compositions) and Lilja Maria Ásmundsdottir (sound design, stage design and compositions). The production is directed by Julia Sørensen and Sara Skogøy is the costume designer. Anne Oortwijn is the props designer and Mathias Langholm Lundgren has created the lighting design.
