Performing artists and performing arts festivals have always been characterized by elements of risk, unexpected events and the influence of national and international political situations. What is the current state of performing artists' opportunities and festivals' room for action in a world that is changing almost daily? How do artists and festival organizers balance their great artistic ambitions against ensuring safety, logistics and the desire to provide the audience with relevant artistic experiences?
We have a conversation with Helena Krinal, who is visiting Showbox with the performance Shapeshifter. Krinal was born in Estonia and has lived in Ramallah, Palestine, since 2013, where she is a beekeeper, performing artist and instructor. Krinal believes that artists should be closely involved in the society and environment around them, as art has the potential to influence change and a better future.
The conversation is between Krinal and artistic director of Showbox, Tine Valavuo Tyldum. After During the conversation, it will be possible to share your own experiences regarding programming or artistic production.
The conversation will be held in English.
