We are excited to present JAM as part of the opening of Showbox 2025!
JAM explores the boundaries between dance as an art form and social dance, with roots in club and street dance culture. The project questions who gets to define dance art, who is represented on stage, and who feels a sense of belonging to the field. The goal is to create greater inclusion and representation within the art of dance, through a pop-up performance for audiences who do not necessarily seek out dance.
JAM takes place outdoors or indoors in public spaces – open to everyone, regardless of background or financial situation. The performance lies on the border between performance and jam: it arises in interaction with the surroundings and the natural currents of the place, and is therefore usually not announced in advance.

You can experience JAM from a distance or up close, for ten seconds or forty minutes. The audience is invited to watch – or participate, if they wish. All the performers have a background in club and street dance culture, and are used to dancing together, sharing and including others. Some also have extensive experience in the performing arts. JAM should be experienced both as a performance and as a jam, depending on the audience's own references. The music ranges between house, soul, funk and hip hop, and is mixed anew for each screening by Nikolai Nypan, adapted to the mood and location.

Anne Golberg Stavn has a three-year education in dance and cultural communication. She became part of Oslo's street dance scene in 2007, and has since immersed herself in street and club dance culture through extended stays in New York and Paris.
She works as a creative and performing dance artist, both in her own projects and in the crew dEEp doWN dopEiZM , as well as an educator. In 2024 she premiered her first own project, JAM , which has played on the streets and squares of Oslo. With the crew she has participated in everything from street dance festivals and battles to larger productions, including Into The Deep , and collaborated with Hooman Sharifi/Impure Company (2011–2014).
Anne is an active part of the street dance community, regularly participating in jams and battles at home and abroad. She is also part of MUD Session Oslo , which works to promote club dance culture through open trainings, jams and club nights.
JAM is supported by the Arts Council of Norway, the Norwegian Fund for Sound and Vision, FFUK and the Municipality of Oslo.
