What if the clothes we no longer wear could still connect us?
In FellesSkapet (ComeUnity), Tiril Pharo invites the audience to share memories, stories and clothes – and to become part of an ongoing art project about belonging, love and sustainability.
At this year's Showbox, we invite you to donate a garment and its story to ComeUnity's exchange booth, which is housed in the Vinterhagen at Sentralen. This garment will eventually become part of a performance.
About ComeUnity:
It all starts in a swop shop – a place where people can come by, feel the fabrics, browse the clothes, share stories and perhaps leave a garment with a story. These memories are preserved in an archive , and form the basis for the upcoming performance.
When the project eventually turns into a performance, the audience meets in a second-hand shop that is about to close for good. Here, the shopkeeper – while waiting for her great love – tells about the clothes and lives that have passed through the shop. The stories are real, collected from people in different places – and are intertwined into a warm, humorous and intimate encounter between art and everyday life.
ComeUnity is about what we take care of, what we let go of, and what we share.
Somewhere between clothes, memories and people, a new community arises.
The project stems from Tiril's own costume warehouse at Åsheim farm – a treasure trove of clothes, stories and memories.
Through meetings with people, who share everything from a blouse that felt "too ladylike" to the pants a Ukrainian woman managed to save from her bombed house, ComeUnity collects everyday stories of loss, love, hope and change.
Because perhaps clothes – and the stories left behind in the fabric – can show us new ways of belonging together.
